What are the science graduation requirements?
Students need to complete three credits in science in order to graduate from EGHS, however, most students complete four credits. How does a student get placed into honors biology?
Students are recommended to Honors Biology by their 8th science teacher using a rubric that includes the following components: Test and quiz performance, 7th grade science grade, current 8th grade science grade, science placement test and study skills checklist. This rubric has been both vetted and calibrated to accurately identify students that will experience success at the honors track.
Should my child take 4 years of a science when they only need 3 to graduate?
It is highly recommended that all students take four years of a science. It makes their high school transcript more competitive when applying to a four year college.
If my child was recommended for CCP Earth, Space and Physical Science and not Honors Biology, is it possible for them to move into the honors track as a sophomore?
Yes, depending on their academic performance, the teacher of record may recommend the student to the honors level.
Is it possible for my child to take two science courses at the same time?
Yes, if it fits into their schedule. The majority of students that elect to do this, do so in their Junior or Senior year.
